Another country, another holy mountain to climb. The only thing harder than walking up all those stairs (2,230 m) is probably the job of installing them...

Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) Pilgrimage Video Details
Sri Lanka, Episode 39
In this adventure we start out at the foot of Adam’s Peak. It is 2,243 meters high
Our Basecamp is a guesthouse at the base.
It’s 3.30 am and after Cristina does here hair we setout.
The mountain is well known for Sri Pada, meaning sacred footprint.
It’s a 1.8m rock formation near the summit with a footprint indentation.
The Buddhists believe it to be the footprint of Buddha.
While the Hindus believe it to Shiva’s.
And the Muslims and Coptic Christians believe it to be Adams.
This is a multidenominational pilgrimage site.
Basically the way to the summit is a trail with thousands of steps.
What you see initially is just the lower stage.
The way is lighted at night.
What’s a pilgrimage without sales booths? There are plenty along the route. Plus a massage parlor. I’d think that was practical for the descent.
And lots of tea stalls, which is also practical.
Cristina was too tired to even worry about leaches.
An hour later Cristina was slowing down.
30 minutes from the summit we realized we wouldn’t make the summit at sunrise.
“I’m glad I got up early this morning.”
Another real world adventure.
Cristina asked, “I don’t remember, why did we do it by night?”
I replied, “So we would be there by sunrise.”
But no sunrise that day, just clouds.
As we approached the last leg we crossed paths with some cold pilgrims who left the summit.
Cristina was having doubts.
At last we could hear the music and see the flags at the summit.
Cristina then lit a butter lamp in offering.
She was making an offering of gratitude.
Gratitude to finally be done with this climb.
