During the December 8, 1979 concert, tensions flared between Criss and Paul Stanley when Paul signaled to slow the tempo down in one of their songs. Feeling unjustly blamed, Criss expressed his frustration in his 2012 memoir, "Makeup to Breakup." Although acknowledging Stanley's point, Criss attributed his edginess and fast tempo to pre-show stress from his cocaine dealer's visit at the concert. Fueled by anger, Criss deliberately slowed the song, leading to a heated exchange with Stanley and ultimately, Criss ceasing to play.
