The Gates of Dawn is one of the most visited shrines in Vilnius that is famous not only in Lithuania but also abroad, worshipped by the representatives of other creeds too. This is the only surviving gate of the first original five gates in the city wall that was built between 1503 and 1522.
In the 16th century city gates often contained religious artifacts intended to guard the city from attacks and to bless travelers. The Chapel in the Gate of Dawn contains an icon of The Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of Mercy, said to have miraculous powers. For centuries the picture has been one of the symbols of the city and an object of veneration for both Roman Catholic and Orthodox inhabitants.
Church of the Holy Spirit - The Orthodox Church has had services since the 16th century. Earlier a brick Orthodox Church was built on this site, which was decorated in Rococo style. This Orthodox Church is the only Baroque Orthodox church in Lithuania.
St. Casimir church was built by the Jesuits: work began on it in 1604, two years after St. Casimir had been canonised. It was dedicated to the memory of Saint Prince Casimir. In 1961 it opened as a museum about atheism, and continued to be used as such until 1988. Now serves as catholic church.
Vilnius Town Hall built in 1785-1799 in clasicism style by the most famous lithuanian architect Laurynas Stuoka-Gucevičius. It has remained unchanged since then.
Pacai palace - Three floored building, which has gotic, baroque and classicism style elements. In 16th century there were some buildings. After the 1655 war with Russia the buildings became decrepit. Mykolas Kazimieras Pacas, hetmon of Grand Duchy of Lithuania, bought the buildings and rebuilded them into an ornate palace. Unfortunately, in the 18th century the pacace became dilapidated, but there fixed in 1810, 1830.
St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. According to a popular legend, the first wooden Orthodox chapel located on the place of today's St. Nicholas church was built around 1340. Seven years later, the Vilnius martyrs were supposedly buried there. However, in 1350, Uliana of Tver, the second wife of prince Algirdas, ordered to build a new brick church. In 1514 this church was again replaced with a larger one. Around 1740 the church was completely destroyed by fire and rebuilt in Baroque style. In 1839 it was completely rebuilt in Neo-Byzantine style.
St. Paraskeva Church - the first Orthodox church of St. Paraskeva was constructed on demand of prince Algirdas first wife. In 1864, on the orders of the Russian local government, it was rebuilt and enlarged in Neo-Byzantine style by Nikolay Chagin.
House of Signatories where the Act of Independence of Lithuania was signed on 16th of February, 1918.
The house itself was built in 16th century and heavily rebuilt in 19th century. After the restoration of independence a museum was established in this place. The exposition of museum describes in detail the life of Jonas Basanavičius and the history of the Act of Independence.
Cathedral square - the most known Lithuania square. It is not merely the most lively and important location in the city, but is also one of the most significant and widely known symbols of Lithuania.
The Cathedral of Vilnius (Lithuanian: Vilniaus Šv. Stanislovo ir Šv. Vladislovo arkikatedra bazilika) is the main Roman Catholic Cathedral of Lithuania. It is the heart of Lithuania's Catholic spiritual life.
The coronations of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania took place within its confines.
