A US military plane crashed into a residential area of California, about 90 miles east of San Diego on Wednesday afternoon (June 4).
According to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the Third Marine Aircraft Wing AV-8B Harrier was stationed at MCAS Yuma. The plane went down around 4:20 p.m. local time in Imperial, a city about 90 miles east of San Diego near the U.S.-Mexico border.
KGTV quoted witnesses on the ground as saying that the aircraft was flying very close to the houses before it fell from the sky. The crash damaged three homes and a total of eight homes were evacuated, according to CNN. There were no reports of injuries on the ground. The pilot ejected safely from the aircraft before it crashed.
MCAS Miramar said they had no details about what might have caused the crash and an investigation has been launched into the cause, KGTV reported.
