Language can be loaded. Words and meaning change over time and across cultures. For health care professionals, it is our job to be aware of what is appropriate so we can confidently discuss issues of race and challenge instances of racial discrimination, but we may not always feel comfortable doing so.
As part of the International Day of Eliminating Racial Discrimination, this joint event by the RCN and the NHS Confederation, explores the history of language and race discrimination with a focus on healthcare management and nursing.
