Try counting the bars like this:

Also, try clapping along before you even start playing your instrument.

I also highly recommend coming up with as many riffs and little "melodies" as you can... that will open the doors to eventually being able to improvise freely on a piece of odd meter music like this...


The track is in E minor and is based on a riff which contains notes from the E minor blues scale and Phrygian Mode - as well as some passing notes.


Suggested scales:


E Minor Pentatonic Scale - E G A B D (E)

E Minor Blues Scale - E G A Bb B D (E)

E Minor Scale (Aeolian Mode) - E F# G A B C D (E)

E Phrygian Mode - E F G A B C D (E)
