Eine Mainzer Ärztin und ihre Tochter werden in ihrem Haus im Stadtteil Weisenau brutal ermordet. Die Polizei tappt bei der Suche nach dem Täter lange im Dunkeln. Dann kommt sie einem Spanner auf die Schliche, der scheinbar perfekt ins Raster passt. Der Mann gesteht die Morde auch – mehrmals. Jedoch widerruft er seine Aussagen jedes Mal. Der ungelernte Hilfsarbeiter mit dem niedrigen IQ, Klaus Bräunig, wird trotzdem verurteilt. Einige sind sich sicher: Das kann der nicht gewesen sein – so auch sein damaliger Therapeut, mit dem wir für die Folge gesprochen haben. Auch die Ermittlungsmethoden der Polizei zur damaligen Zeit sind eher unkonventionell. Bedeutet das, dass der Mörder bis heute frei herumläuft?
