Landlords have typically 30 days after the tenant moves out to provide the tenant with a written statement of damages. This may differ based on your lease agreement. A landlord has 45 days to return the security deposit to the tenant after the tenant has moved out. If you have not received your security deposit from your landlord after 45 days of moving out, you will need to complete a Security Deposit Demand Letter in Illinois.
