Silvuddy's Notes:
- Lorekeeper Zinnia: This is one of the coolest battle themes we never asked for in the Pokémon franchise. The focus on solo viola (maybe violin? hard to tell) is such a neat choice for a battle theme. The glissandi used throughout the whole thing gives the piece a very specific style for Zinnia that I just absolutely love.
- Ultra Recon Squad: And now we're in crazy town. This is easily the wackiest trainer battle theme, but the electronic sound effects are just so cool. The track contains a great mix of weird, wobbly synths as well as grindy, in your face saw waves that keep you on edge.
- Dojo Master Mustard: These themes go all in on the feudal Japanese-era feeling. Not sure exactly what they're are called, but the specific Japanese string instruments used in Mustard's battle themes are so perfect, especially in combination with things like xylophone and brass stabs.
- Peony: I never played the Crown Tundra myself, so I don't have any particular attachment to Peony, and I find his theme to be a little odd to be honest. I get the jazz feel they're going for, but something about the sound quality is very grating. Maybe it's just the sound library of acoustic instruments they used that's not super realistic... haha. At least the concept and composition as a base are cool; I do like jazz!
- Director Clavell: This battle theme is kind of subtly menacing in a way, which makes sense given its place in the story as he confronts you pretending to be Team Star's leader. If you listen closely, you can actually hear the Academy theme when the solo trumpet comes in, albeit modified for the key of this version.
