The Series XJ was unquestionably one of Jaguar’s best cars, rationalising its complex executive saloon range of the mid-1960s (Mk2, S-Type, 420G, 420/Mk10, plus Daimler 250 among others…) and competing with the best luxury cars in the world. The combination of understated beauty, a fantastic ride, upmarket interior and strong performance from the XK six-cylinder and V12 engines was arguably best realised in the Series 3 XJ, the Pininfarina-designed facelift of 1979. These days it’s a must-have classic Jaguar icon and Joe took a luxurious Daimler 4.2 for a drive to explain why we love it so much!
