The second installation of Old Home Place Recordings. Jackson Grimm and John Duncan performing an old tune called “The Blackest Crow.” This version of the song, played out in the hillside of the Blue Ridge, creates a haunting vision of love, loss, and parting.
Jackson and John are friends and roommates, living way out in the countryside of North Carolina. They gathered up a group of pals during the height of the pandemic, left the city, moved somewhere quiet, and dove deep into their music. They are some of the most talented artists out there as well as some of the most humble. I consider myself lucky to have spent the day out on their property collecting tunes.
One of those pals that moved to the country with them is Carter Giegerich. The day we recorded this tune Carter hopped on the OHPR team. He has been helping by adding another camera angle and running the audio. Carter is a quality human being with a kind soul and a love for kittens. He is also ultra talented, making lovely sounds on the resophonic guitar.
