Syria | Syrian Civil War 2014 | War Clashes
After heavy fighting in the battle for the town of Al-Mleha it indicates that the Syrian Army is now also focusing on Eastern Ghouta after making advances against rebel and other factions across Syria.
Eastern Ghouta is still under siege by the Syrian Army and activists have claimed that Hezbollah and Iraqi Shia Militia are also active in the Ghouta region. Reports have indicated that Hezbollah has pulled most of their forces from Al-Ghouta in 2013 before the battle in Al-Qalamoun but Iraqi militias were still stationed there.
The Syrian Army launched this offensive on Al-Mleha specifically for its strategic location, it is considered the supply route to Al-Ghouta that opposition forces are using to smuggle weapons food and munitions.
The Syrian Army has claimed to have reached the center of Al-Mleha while opposition forces claims are mixed between still being in Al-Mleha and retreating to the outskirts of Al-Mleha.
The Syrian Army has also announced that this is just one of the first battles for Al-Ghouta and that they would be advancing soon into the bordering towns of Zebdeen and Jisreen.
