Threat for severe weather remains elevated through early Friday as a strong cold front slowly pushes into the area. Houston and surrounding areas remain under a Category 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms tonight. Main threats will be damaging winds of 60-70 mph, hail around quarter to golf ball size, and heavy downpours that could lead to some flooding. The tornado threat is very low but cannot be ruled out. Timeframe for Houston appears to be from around 11PM - 3AM. A cluster of storms will move in overnight and produce a possible 1-3" of rain with isolated higher amounts. Cold front will move through during Friday afternoon where one or two storms could redevelop. But the atmosphere will be worked over and the chance is low. Behind the front Friday evening, we will be drying out and clearing out meaning great weather for everyone flocking to NRG to catch Taylor Swift!
