Find out about how we'll build the HS2 Phase 2a line from Crewe to the West Midlands. The infrastructure will consist of: 36 miles of railway,17 viaducts, 65 bridges, 36 embankments, 26 cuttings, 1 maintenance base and 2 tunnels.

13,000 people have already worked on HS2. We’ve announced 22,000 further jobs, with more big contracts and jobs to come. Building Phase 2a will support 5,000 jobs.

HS2 Phase 2a will extend the high speed rail line from the West Midlands to Crewe, helping towns and cities across north western England, north Wales and Scotland benefit from it sooner. The Phase 2a line will run from the northern end of Phase 1 at Fradley in the West Midlands to Crewe in Cheshire. The services will join the existing rail network to create direct services to places including Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Carlisle and Glasgow. Crewe is also the station for connections to North Wales and Shrewsbury.
