Today I'm taking a look at the original Hublot Big Bang 44mm in steel & ceramic (301.SB.131.RX) - the 2005 brainchild of Jean Claude Biver, and the watch that cemented Hublot as a major player in the world of luxury watches.

I discuss the significance of the Big Bang as part of Hublot's history, as well as looking into parallels between this and other racing chronographs such as the Rolex Daytona and the Omega Speedmaster. Much like the Daytona & Speedmaster, the Big Bang wasn't Hublot's first chronograph, but it was the one that defined the brand.

This 44mm Big Bang chronograph features a cocktail of materials including a rubber strap, steel outer case, ceramic bezel & titanium inner core - true to Hublot's philosophy of the art of fusion.

On the inside of the 100m water-resistant case is a Sellita SW510 (HUB4100) chronograph calibre with 42 hours of power reserve, a 3-6-9 layout, and a quick set date.
