Urethral stent is generally a tube which comes from the kidney to the bladder, bypassing the stone or an obstruction. Usually in urological condition, this stent is placed after any procedure in the ureter or in the kidney so that there is no obstruction of urine during the immediate post-operative period. So these are generally placed in 90% of the situation in any conditions operated upon the kidney, the ureter the lower ureter and the bladder so that the drainage of the urine has to happen freely to the bladder till the healing of the ureter occurs. These stents are placed under local anaesthesia or under general anaesthesia using endoscopic procedure. It is a very simple and straight forward procedure. And also the removal of the stent can be done under local anaesthesia using a flexilibator scope and it takes about 2 to 3 minutes to take out the stent and the patient may have a little of urgency and pain soon after the stent removal. But it is very simple and straightforward.
