The island of Porto Santo is rehabilitating its windmills, public fountains, and wash basins. The island nicknamed “the Golden Island” played a key role as Madeira’s granary which led to the construction of its famous windmills in the 19th century. The European Union contributed with 85% of the budget to the rehabilitation project.
