It's been half a decade since I last touched TC:PT, but apparently I still have it in me. After seeing Smraedis do their amazing 18'45"56 run of this game, I felt inspired to come back to it. Just wish I could have recorded this in something other than composite, but that's all I can manage right now. For transparency purposes, the only editing this video has is the insertion of the scene prior to selecting Story Mode. Nothing else was touched. This is played on the NTSC-U version.
This game appears to have a reputation online for being 'the hardest Time Crisis'. I've seen it called this here and there... on the rare occasion its existence is acknowledged in the first place. It's very much overshadowed by its numbered siblings. I can't really comment on the difficulty - this was my only TC game for a very long time, so I'm too used to it. What I can say is that trying to go fast while maintaining No Damage is reset hell. There's a number of points where you can only hope that enemies don't hit you, an example being the machinegunner at the start of Level 1, Area 3 - by the time you can shoot him he's *still* firing. The boss battle against Blanco is far too easy to take a hit at as well. I wouldn't look down on anybody that takes damage, especially if they're aiming for a top time. I don't feel ashamed to take more than one hit myself. It's just how this game rolls at times.
There are a couple of points where I could have shaved off some time, but I think the biggest time loss in the run is during the Wild Dog battle. Ideally, you should hit him everytime he appears so the battle proceeds to the next phase. Right at the very end, I missed a hit and this made the fight last about ten or so seconds longer than it should have. I still beat my top time, but damn, just barely. I let cutscenes play out since the in-game timer ignores them; the only one I skip is the encounter with the Chef in Level 1, Area 3. I am sometimes able to get a shot on him sooner if I skip the scene - this isn't consistent, but I'll take it nonetheless. The guy has a tendency to just bounce around without giving you an opening, and I don't feel like wasting more time than I need to.
Overall though, this is one of my best playthroughs. It's hard to keep firing well over extended time, but for the most part a lot of things worked out. Hope this entertains you.
