In our conversation with Ras Indio about his new song, “Bed of Roses”, we asked the recording artist to reflect on the death of his son, 14-year-old Kwame Williams. As you will remember, the teenage boy was gunned down on the night of August 5, 2021 – three weeks and a day after 14-year-old Laddie Gillett was killed in Placencia. Williams was shot to death on Gumagarugu Street in Dangriga Town. Ras Indio says that his family took Kwame’s death very hard. For him, it was incredibly ironic because a lot of his music is about the need for meaningful societal change because of the violence on our streets. He spoke to Dale McDougall this morning.
Kwame and Laddie were but two of eight minors, who were killed between July and September 2021. Shortly after Williams was killed, the now 25-year-old Dashay Williams was arrested and charged with the teen’s murder
