The French Connection - but do they look familiar? - Roger Gibbons from the European Butterfly Group
Britain has 57 butterfly species, mainland France has 237, and all of the British species occur in France. This illustrated talk by Roger Gibbons looks at the origins of the British species and their close relations on the other side of the channel. They clearly share the same predecessors but have evolved separately. In some cases they are different species – such as Brimstone and Cleopatra - and in some cases just subspecies. See if you recognise them.
This presentation was delivered online on Weds 31st March to membersof Herts & Middx Butterfly Conservation and the European Butterflies Group. It was one of a series of talks in the Herts & Middx BC Winter Events programme
