A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association discussed in The New York Times finds many women with early stage breast cancer tumors with involvement of 1 or 2 lymph nodes may not need removal of additional lymph nodes from the armpit. The study shows removal of these additional lymph nodes does not change the treatment plan, or improve survival or recurrence rates.
