James Ivey has brought over his Danelectro U2 for me to have a look at, and to be honest I've been dreaming about this guitar ever since.
When it first appeared in '56, the U2 made a big impression for its use of twin lipstick pickups wired in series rather than in parallel. With its coil wrapped around an Alnico VI magnet and then wrapped in tape, these pickups harken back to the vintage tone of rock's earliest days. The result is a tone that truly stands alone — jangly, midrange punch and treble kick. This unique sound and the playability of the U2 has won over numerous legends in rock including Ronnie Wood, Steve Perry, and Mark Knopfler. It has also made the U2 a much sought after axe in the world of surf rock. And with a 3-way pickup selector and master volume and tone control, you will have lots of options for dialing in your tone.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.
