Making gingerbread cookies for the first time! I actually never even had gingerbread cookies before, so I’m not even sure what they’re supposed to taste like.

I followed the recipe from @nytcooking (but I used butter instead of shortening).

Overall I am happy with how it turned out, especially since it’s my first time making it. The cookie is soft but holds it’s shape.

A tiny bit bitter aftertaste but I’m not sure if that’s how it supposed to taste or it was too much baking soda and baking powder (I followed the recipe tho!). It’s not too sweet and I do taste the ginger and spices without them being overpowering.

I was also worried about the dough being too sticky so I might have added a bit more flour than in should, so the cookies could’ve been a bit more moist but it’s not dry. Again I haven’t had gingerbread before, so not sure if it’s supposed to be not as moist like a regular cookie.

With the icing (I just used a store bought one, @pillsbury vanilla frosting), it taste a lot better and complements the cookie well, giving it added sweetness without making it too sweet.
