Manoj Jain, a physician who writes regularly for the Washington Post, moderates a panel on the implications of medical tourism as a burgeoning industry in India at the Halle Institute's third annual India Summit, March 2, 2012. Participants include William Bearden, an independent filmmaker speaking from a patient's perspective; Yehuda Dror, president of DNV Healthcare, Inc.; and Dr. Devi Shetty, world-renowned cardiac surgeon and founder of Narayana Hrudalaya Hospital in Bangalore, which brings cutting-edge health care to India's poor through its scalable, low-cost model.
Grounded in the cross-cutting theme of innovation, the 2012 summit featured a diverse lineup of panels and speakers, including Shetty, Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao, and internationally acclaimed author Sir Salman Rushdie. Launched in 2010, this annual event, formerly known as the Emerging India Summit, is the brainchild of a dynamic team of students from across the university. The summit regularly features distinguished business leaders, foreign policy experts, government officials, medical experts, and scholars from a variety of fields.
