The men’s snowboard halfpipe was on display, and featured an amazing back-and-forth between Olympic great Shaun White and young Japanese star Ayumu Hirano.Not everything was positive however, as another Japanese athlete, Yuto Totsuka, had a frightening moment.Totsuka is a 16-year old from Japan, who qualified in 10th during Monday’s heats.About 20 minutes before Hirano put together his silver medal-winning second run, Totsuka landed on the lip during his.The images from the run are incredibly scary.Totsuka had a ton of air before going down hard, and was an estimated 35 feet up.He came down hard and hit the lip of the halfpipe, and was on the ground for a while before being stretchered off.Obviously, he did not finish out the event.We haven’t gotten a full update on Totsuka’s status after the fall.However, USA Today‘s Rachel Axon gave a fairly reassuring report.According to Japan’s press officer, Totsuka did not have a “big injury,” but did feel pain in his hip.He was taken to the hospital after the fall.Here is video from the event, which is being aired on NBC: Our thoughts go out to Totsuka.Hopefully, as the press officer said, this wasn’t a significant injury, but it was terrifying to watch nevertheless.Shaun White finished in first and captured his third gold medal with a spectacular 97.25 run.Hirano finished with the silver medal after his 95.25 run, while Australian Scott James earned bronze with a score of 92 on his first run.
