These volunteers on the Malaysian resort island of Tioman are turning ocean plastic into office chairs.
The plastic they collect each weekend is taken to a recycling plant, where it's broken down and transformed into furniture, auto parts, and more.
Sydney Steenland, the founder of the Sea Monkey Project, says the solution is temporary: 'It's never going to actually stop the situation if you don't tell people to stop using the plastic first and actually deal with the problem.'
The average consumption rate of plastic in Malaysia is approx 35 pounds per person per year, according to a recent World Wildlife Fund report.
