Himachal and Punjab Chief Ministers join hands to revive Shri Anandpur Sahib-Mata Naina Devi ropeway project to boost tourism and employment. After an MoU signed in 2012, the project was shelved due to government changes. But the recent meeting between Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Bhagwant Mann brings hope for its revival. The ropeway will reduce the 24.7 km distance to 3.5 km, making it easier for tourists to reach Naina Devi and Dalhousie. Authorities are optimistic about the positive impact on the region's tourism and employment opportunities. Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met recently to kickstart the Shri Anandpur Sahib-Mata Naina Devi ropeway project. In July 2012, an MoU was signed between then Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for the Shri Anandpur Sahib-Mata Naina Devi ropeway for which Badal travelled to Shimla. However, the project was shelved as governments changed, but now there is the hope of reviving the project. The Punjab government has been making constant efforts to promote tourism targeting Sri Anandpur Sahib. Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann had spoken about making the city into a tourism hub. "We will speed up and finish these projects soon. So that people can go to Naina Devi and Dalhousie in a ropeway," Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said. The distance from Shri Anandpur Sahib to Mata Naina Devi is 24.7 km. If the ropeway is finally constructed then the distance will reduce to 3.5 km. Authorities hope it will boost tourism and increase employment opportunities.
