My 2021 Toyota RAV4 LE has 81,000 trouble-free miles (130,000 km), but the 8-speed automatic transmission began making a whining noise. It is most noticeable when the vehicle is accelerating, and the pitch increases with the vehicle speed. It does not change pitch when the transmission shifts gears, so it appears to be coming from the output side of the transmission. It isn't as loud when you are coasting (when the engine is not under load). I have never seen any fluid leak from the transmission. Has anyone else heard a noise like this, or does anyone have a guess what it could be? The vehicle is front-wheel-drive.
