Revered footballer turned sports broadcaster Gary Lineker said he stands by his criticism of the government's illegal immigration bill, which he likened to 1930s Germany. Lineker said he was not worried about the prospect of suspension from his role as lead presenter of BBC's Match of the Day.

The home secretary, Suella Braverman, hit back at Lineker in an interview with BBC’s Nick Robinson for his Political Thinking podcast, calling the comment 'offensive', 'flippant' and 'lazy'. Braverman told Robinson: 'From a personal point of view, to hear that characterisation is offensive because - as you said - my husband is Jewish; my children are therefore directly descendent from people who were murdered in gas chambers during the Holocaust'.
