Every spring, crews set out to tackle the big job of clearing the winter road sand from the City’s transportation network, which is also known as, the City of Vernon’s spring street sweeping program.
The program consists of daily road and sidewalk sweeping, as well flushing.
To mitigate dust and its impact to the community, the City uses water to pre-wet surfaces for equipment without a water supply like skid steers.
City street sweepers have a water supply for dust suppression and can apply water through their entire operation.
Two to three passes will be made by sweepers to remove debris, dirt and dust, with flushing equipment making the final pass to remove fine particulate matter.
The full spring sweeping program takes approximately 6 weeks to complete, To help crews with this big job, residents are encouraged to remove vehicles from roadways during this time to allow equipment to clean the entire roadway.
