BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A group of pets in Kern County are taking flight and traveling to the Pacific Northwest, on a journey to find forever homes. The trip is part of a program giving animals a second chance.
Small and medium size dogs are excited for the journey ahead. About twenty of them are preparing to join new families in several communities in Washington State and Oregon.
"What's cool is that they bring these planes in. They scoop these dogs up and they have a home within a day or two, which gives them a much better chance," said Julie Johnson, executive director of the Animal Care Center.
The animals are part of the Taste of Honey Transport, a special collaboration between the City of Bakersfield Animal Care Center and the Kern County Animal Services.
