The melody for Yikes! is one I’ve had mysteriously stuck in my head from time to time since I was around six years old. I knew I wanted to make a song centered around it one day, but I waited until the right topic and occasion came around. It grew in to this song that I wrote in a state of indifference and liberation, a few hours after a breakup. I felt myself losing feelings and cutting ties and trying to find a new independent reality to live. The video, however, came from emotions I felt like I should be experiencing in the moment, but wasn’t. It came from how I saw breakups in the movies and media— how you were supposed to be sad and unable to get out of bed, and then angrily erase all traces of a person in attempts to forget and get over her.
Since creating this song with the help of producer Kersey Dickerson from Rax Trax recording, I feel I’ve grown into a person who, maybe through gained maturity, sees a less one-sided view of the situation while still being the proudest I could ever be of this song.

Enjoy Yikes! Here are the lyrics:
On a busy Friday street we tried not to cry
The cars and buses passing us, we said our goodbyes
11 months erased from our upside-down lives
‘Cause one of us was brave enough to finally say
Shabarabay Nabarabai
Shabarabay Nabarabai
I’m sorry how it ended this way
And by the time we realized what we’d both done
Our feet were swept by breezes, broke out into a run
We texted cheesy messages ‘bout being too young
I loved you but my schedule got caught in the way
(Sorry)
Shabarabay Nabarabai
Shabarabay Nabarabai
I’m sorry how it ended this way
And we’re both too awkward
The tides took us too far apart to function properly, I guess
Too indecisive
We both know we don’t want it but it’s gotta be decided now
Cuz i’m gonna be brave enough to finally say
Shabarabay Nabarabai
Shabarabay Nabarabai
I’m sorry how it ended this way
Shabarabay Nabarabai
Shabarabay Nabarabai
I’m sorry how it ended this way
‘Cause if we’re friends now, wouldn’t it be kind of the same?
