The Pomegranate can survive typical North and Central Texas winters, produce fruit and thrive. Pomegranates can be eaten fresh, juiced for a drink, or made into an antioxidant rich syrup.
The Pomegranate is originally from south Asia and have been grown in the Mediterranean and India for thousands of years. Spanish missionaries in the sixteenth century introduced the Pomegranate to the Americas.
The Pomegranate although common to more tropical regions, is well suited to hot and dry areas. The Pomegranate is able to tolerate temperatures as low as 10 degrees and does best when grown in full sun.
I hope this video gave you a good idea of what you can expect when growing Pomegranates in north and central Texas!
