This is one of the main popular dishes in Iraq, It is cooked especially on religious occasions and more popular in southern Iraq.
This dish it consists of crushed chickpeas (split pea) or whole chickpeas mixed with meat or minced lamb or beef with lots of spices but every family and each city has it is own method and secrets of cooking it.

The Ingredients:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 cup chopped onions
1 pound of ground meat, preferably beef or sheep
2 tablespoons clarified butter or butter (optional) if the meat is not greasy
3 whole dried lemon, black or yellow, or 1/2 tablespoon ground
1 teaspoon of seven spices is optional
1 teaspoon curry
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of cardamom
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon coriander
1/2 teaspoon ginger
2 teaspoon salt or as desired
3 Tbsp. tomato paste
1 cup split pea washed and drained
4 cups boiling water
