Before I drove in to get my R32 flashed for UM's spark cut tune I figured I should record a "before" exhaust sound to see how much of a difference it is.
United Motorsport's spark cut option is a feature designed to reduce transmission strain and overall shift time by temporarily cutting ignition for a few milliseconds as the dual clutch transmission changes gears. This also has the side effect of dumping a bit of unburnt fuel in the hot exhaust - which upon ignition creates a distinct "thump" sound and a nice poof of flames out the exhaust during shifts.
The car has a Magnaflow resonated catback with stock downpipes and manifolds. After driving around with this tune on the stock catalytic converters for over a year I can confidently say that the tune does not damage them.
The 2008 Volkswagen R32 is all wheel drive and has a 3.2 liter naturally aspirated VR6 engine making 250hp. It is mated to a six speed dual clutch transmission.
