Hi. My name is Sofiya Feerer.
Hi. I'm Amir Sarreshtehdary. We're here to speak to you about Joint Tenancy with Right of Survivorship. Under Joint Tenancy With Right of Survivorship, all joint owners have full rights to the property.
Generally, ownership cannot be changed without the consent of all parties.
When one of the joint owners dies, these assets avoid probate and transferred directly to the surviving owner.
It appears attractive to our clients. However, there may be unintended consequences when the joint tenant transfers his or her interests, thereby severing the joint tenancy.
Financial institutions will also sometimes require the consent of both joint tenants for certain actions, such as the transfer of an account.
The surviving joint tenant has complete control over the ultimate disposition of their property. This means that the family of the deceased joint tenant may be effectively disinherited.
This video has been brought to you by the Atashi Rang Law Firm, where we're building lifetime relationships one client at a time.
Thank you for watching.
