Oysters are part of the mollusk family, and people consider them a delicacy all around the world. High-class restaurants and fine dining places usually serve them. There are more species of oysters, and they can be very healthy for you. Oysters are low in calories but high in protein, and they are also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Health benefits of Oyster
Omega-3 is essential to include in your diet because your body can’t make it, and it is associated with several health benefits. Eating oysters and other food rich in omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, reduce dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other brain diseases and reduce cancer risk.
Protein is essential for the human body. It is required for muscle building and preventing muscle loss, and it protects bone health. Protein is vital if you are working out regularly.
Oysters are abundant in nutrients, several vitamins and minerals. Oysters are rich in vitamin D, vitamin B12, zinc, copper, iron and selenium.
Vitamin B12 is only found in animal food and is critical for your nervous system, metabolism and blood cell formation.
We mostly get vitamin D with sunshine, but we still need some dietary sources, especially during winter. Vitamin D is important for your immune system, bone health, and cellular growth. A lot of people are deficient in this vitamin, so eating oysters might help with that.
Selenium is an important mineral many seafood and fish are rich in. Selenium supports thyroid function and bone health. It can also protect the body against oxidative stress and reduce the damage caused by free radicals. These factors often lead to chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes.
Oysters contain a unique antioxidant called DHMBA, which can also fight oxidative stress and also support liver and heart health.
