After decades of demanding that Japan pay reparations, South Korea has agreed to compensate its citizens who were forced to work in Japanese factories during World War II through a public fund. Japanese firms would be able to make voluntary donations to the fund. However, critics have said the plan does not hold Japan accountable. Mr Kuni Miyake, research director at The Canon Institute for Global Studies, shared more about what South Korea, Japan and the US have hailed as a breakthrough in the long-standing historical feud.
