In a field campaign called MOST (Marine Oil Spill Thickness), NASA and NOAA are testing radar technology to measure oil thickness in marine oil spills. Their goal is to develop a prototype system that helps responders identify where the thickest -- and most environmentally harmful—oil is during an oil spill. This will help responders direct their clean up efforts to the areas that need it most.
