Standing at almost 400 metres high, this uninhabited rock island made of limestone is situated 2km off the west coast of Ibiza and is right opposite to Cala d'Hort. This mysterious and beautiful rock stood in for the volcanic island Bali Hai in the 1958 Hollywood film, South Pacific.

Es Vedra is shrouded in myths and legend, the most popular of which is that it is in fact the third most magnetic spot on earth (after the north pole and the Bermuda Triangle). There is no evidence to support this though some report that navigational instruments are affected in the vicinity of Es Vedra. Mention its status as the number three magnetic spot to a local however and you will either be met with a blank stare or laughter.

If not magnetic, the islet certainly feels magical when in its presence; the way it rises majestically and transmits a palpable feeling of peace and, shall we say fairy dust, is a view shared by just about all who visit it.

Myths have followed Es Vedra from ancient history, not least that it was the home of the sirens and sea-nymphs who tried to lure Ulysses from his ship in Homer's Odyssey. Reputedly, it is the birth place of the goddess Tanit, whose statue you will see all across Ibiza.
