Following his exploits in the first game, Stormlord's services are required yet again, this time to save the fairies from their imprisonment in Hell.
The second game in the series removes the puzzle elements and relies on straightforward shooting instead.
The game is divided into 3 separate blocks, each 2 levels in length, followed by a bonus stage, which involves laying down hearts and using them as platforms to reach the floating fairies. Touching them will drop a coin, which can be collected for bonus points.
After each pair of levels, you will receive a code to enter once you load the next batch of levels. The code you receive is determined by how many fairies you've currently rescued, as well as your current score; it's very similar to the password systems that became common on the 16-bit consoles.
The game is unbelievably difficult at times. A lot of this can be attributed to the speed at which the game runs, coupled with the large numbers of enemies that can be on-screen at any given time.
Stormlord has a number of different weapons that can be collected and used to fight off enemies, such as bombs, mines and a crossbow. Some of these are more useful than others, but all are limited in ammo, so should be used sparingly.
The graphics are well drawn and Matt Gray provided a fantastic set of audio tracks for the game!
If, by some chance, you were able to beat the game then you would be treated to a pretty abysmal ending sequence where all the fairies you managed to rescue are released into Heaven, followed by the words, "Game Over".
Enjoy!
