Constructed in 1420, during the Ming Dynasty, the Forbidden City is China's best-preserved imperial palace and the largest in the world. The complex has 9,999 rooms (the number 9 represents longevity) while the 10,000th room is reserved for the heavens. At the centre of it all is the Hall of Supreme Harmony, where the Dragon Throne of Chinese emperors is located.
As one of the five most important palaces in the world, the grand halls and walls proudly display the essence and culmination of traditional Chinese architecture, fitting for the capital city of the world’s largest nation.
