One of the easiest fall mushrooms to identify, the elm oyster (Hypsizygus ulmarius) isn't a true oyster at all. They're easy to spot coming from knots, holes and wounds in boxelder and elm trees. Look for them after the summer heat first breaks and you have the first cool nights of the year.
