Lisa Kim talks to Benjamin Pinsky, MD, PhD, about what his lab is doing to prepare for the monkeypox virus. Stanford Medicine’s Clinical Virology Laboratory launched a diagnostic test for the monkeypox virus that has been identified in 42 countries and several U.S. states, including California. The test will accelerate accurate diagnoses and inform public health efforts aimed at stopping the spread of the virus.
Stanford Medicine is among the first academic medical centers in the country to offer the test to patients. It is available for Stanford Medicine patients and those at nearby medical centers.

Benjamin Pinsky, MD, PhD, is an associate professor of pathology and of medicine (infectious diseases) at Stanford Medicine. He is also the medical director of the Clinical Virology Laboratory for Stanford Health Care and the Stanford Children’s Health.
