The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is an upscale minivan with the comfort and technology to match top segment leaders. Its sleek exterior looks athletic and SUV-like. It's still the only minivan available with a hybrid engine, with an all-electric range of 30 miles before using any gas. Advanced safety systems come standard. There are numerous high-tech options, like an in-cabin camera for checking on rear-facing child seats and an onboard vacuum in case of any mid-trip spills.
Chrysler builds the Pacifica in four trim levels: Touring, Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle.
The Touring trim starts things off, priced from around $35,500. It has 17-inch alloy wheels, a compact spare tire, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, a power liftgate, and automated parking. Driver safety aids include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. The Pacifica Touring also has many comfort and convenience features inside its spacious cabin, like cloth upholstery, an 8-way power front seat, stowable rear-seat rows, keyless entry, keyless ignition, tri-zone climate control, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Android Auto.
Stepping up to the Touring L costs about $38,500. It adds leather seating, heated front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, a rear sunshade, and a dual-screen rear entertainment system.
The Limited model rings in around $46,000. Standard features include power-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, chrome exterior accents, a motion-activated power tailgate, an 8-way power passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a power-folding third-row, an onboard vacuum, a 13-speaker Alpine audio system, a WiFi hotspot, and navigation.
For about $51,000, the Pinnacle trim represents the ultimate in luxury. It comes loaded with amenities, including quilted Nappa leather upholstery, unique matching lumbar pillows, a larger center console, front/rear parking sensors, and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
A 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine comes standard across the lineup. It uses variable valve timing and a stop-start engine system to maximize fuel efficiency—the engine pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. Shoppers can add all-wheel-drive for about $2,500.
The Pentastar engine produces 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, which is a little more than most rivals. It returns decent fuel economy, too, at 19/28/22 MPG city/highway/combined. The powertrain is efficient and potent enough for accelerating up to highway speeds.
The Pacifica also offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain at an extra cost. However, it is not available with all-wheel-drive like the gas-only engine. This 3.6-liter Atkinson cycle V6 engine connects to two electric motors to make 260 horsepower. It can run for up to 30 miles solely on electricity. In regular hybrid mode, the engine gets 29/30/30 MPG city/highway/overall. It's not quite as thrifty as other hybrids, but it's still excellent.
