After 94 hours of hand-carving, artists from around the world have completed their designs in the 32nd annual International Snow Sculpture Championships presented by Toyota, and the results are breathtaking. Team Germany - Bavaria took home the gold medal for their sculpture, “Sub-Zero-Gravity.” Their design is inspired by the concepts of concrete art and minimalism and plays not only with the nature of the snow in its given
circumstances, but even more with its gravitational properties. In 2022, Team Bavaria was awarded both silver and the Lothar Luboschik Artists' Choice Award for their sculpture, ‘Float,’ which also achieved a dramatic gravity-defying visual impact.Single-digit temperatures, high-altitude sunshine and sporadic snowfall produced ideal sculpting conditions throughout carving week, which began with a canon start at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 and ended at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27. This
year’s event hosted twelve teams representing eight countries, including teams from Germany x2, Italy, India, Denmark, Great Britain, Switzerland, Lithuania, Vermont, Wisconsin x2 and Breckenridge. Winning sculptures were chosen based on technical skill, creativity, expressive impact and adherence to the original submission. Winners were announced at the International Snow Sculpture Championships presented by Toyota official
awards ceremony, held inside the Riverwalk Center at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27.
