A common IT career path is going from Help Desk to System Admin. But there are many roles hidden within the role of being an I.T. Systems Administrator. In this video, I will show you how to go from being a help desk technician to become a systems admin using Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365).
Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's cloud platform. Within that platform Microsoft offers a lot of opportunity for systems administrators. By specializing on one or more of the technologies and applications offered by Microsoft 365 an up and coming help desk technician can build a solid career path - support by obtaining one or more of Microsoft's I.T. certifications.
From a help desk perspective, Microsoft 365 is a subscription plan that includes the Microsoft Office suite (which includes apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). A help desk technician would also do certain administrative tasks within Microsoft 365 - mostly in Exchange Online and maybe Microsoft TEAMS. But there is much more in Microsoft 365. SharePoint Online, Azure Active Directory, Intune, and a slew of security related options. These are all areas where it is easy to specialize and support a skill set with a matching Microsoft certification - providing a perfect platform for help desk technicians to work their way up into system administration.
