Unlike regular manual transmissions, dual-clutch transmissions are manual transmissions that are controlled by a Transmission Control Module (TCM) computer. To the driver of the vehicle, these transmissions operate like an automatic transmission.

Dual-clutch transmissions use two clutch disks, two pressure plates, two release/apply bearings, two clutch forks, and two input shafts. One input shaft feeds power to the odd-numbered gears, the other input shaft feeds power to the even-numbered gears.

Other vehicle manufacturers (BMW, VW, Volvo, Renault, Nissan, Ford, Honda, Mitsubishi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Fiat, Chrysler, etc.) use DCTs in some of their cars; some are used in high-performance applications due to the very quick-shifting speed and lightweight.
