When solving sudoku, you will sometimes reach a point where you can't solve a square, but can narrow down the possible numbers in that square by placing possible candidates. You can make logical conclusions from those candidates that will help you solve the rest of the puzzle. One such idea is identifying naked pair and naked triples. This reduces the number of options in other cells either in rows / columns or the box.
