This video highlights some of the important details of the 16 July 1990 magnitude 7.8 Luzon earthquake based on the personal accounts of the survivors and PHIVOLCS staff. This event from 30 years ago taught us one of the important lessons learned from a major earthquake: the need for nationwide preparations such as conducting earthquake drills in schools, workplaces, and communities. The 16 July 1990 Luzon earthquake was also a wake-up call for the government and other organizations to ensure proper and stricter implementation of the building code. As individuals, we need to make efforts to support disaster awareness, and preparedness so that we may achieve the crucial goal of reducing disaster impacts similar to the 1990 Luzon Earthquake.
